How to choose where to go

Where should we go for vacation?

In this vast and varied world, with nearly limitless opportunities for experiences, picking the ideal destination might not be as simple as it appears.

If you're thinking about leaving but feeling unsure, it might be a good idea to ask yourself some questions to help you make a decision.

How many days do I have?

Carefully assessing this crucial factor will assist you in making a sensible decision: it's not advisable, for instance, to endure long hours of air travel to spend only a few days and potentially spoil the trip by not having enough time to recover from jet lag!

With 2 or 3 days to spare, you might consider a getaway to lovely Italy, a European city with convenient air links, or a peaceful weekend at the spa.

If you have a week off, avoid distant locations or complicated schedules that won't let you relax and enjoy the places peacefully.

We might consider going on a road trip or traveling to Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa, which are just a flight away.

If you're fortunate to have 10 or more days off... then everything becomes easier!

In this situation, you have plenty of options, the opportunity to adjust to the new time zone peacefully, and enough time to explore the location thoroughly.

Here are some suggestions:

What are my disposizions and requirements?

Not all places are suitable for everyone.

The initial step is to grasp your area of interest:

The tourist enjoys leisure and entertainment, the traveler seeks an authentic experience and immersion in the local culture, while the vacationer desires a break from their ordinary life.

Understanding this will assist you in making a more considerate selection of the most appropriate destination and activities, helping you avoid unnecessary disappointments.

If you enjoy an active holiday like trekking or safari over a relaxing one, the Maldivian atolls may not be the best choice for you. Clearly state your expectations and the purpose of your trip.

Don't allow trends or others' opinions to sway you; instead, follow your own preferences. Choosing a destination solely based on advertising could lead you to the Arctic Circle when you actually prefer tropical climates!

Be realistic about your adaptability: some places are cleaner and more organized than others, so don't expect Scandinavian punctuality when traveling to India.

If you're new to traveling and want to begin without any language or cultural barriers, staying in Italy could be a great option.

3 - What's the best time to visit?

Child under Autumn Rain

Visiting a country off-season is allowed, as long as you are aware of the risks and inconveniences you may face, but you can benefit from more favorable prices, especially if you are on a limited budget.

When I pick my next travel spot, I always check for the rainy season, monsoon period, or any potential weather events. I assess the best time to go to make the most of the sunny days and long daylight hours.

Sometimes, though, you might decide to travel during off-peak times, maybe for special events or festivals, or because the rain isn't too bad, and you could end up having the place all to yourself.

What's my budget?

First things first, figure out how much you're willing to spend on your upcoming trip, keeping in mind that there will usually be some unforeseen expenses that couldn't be predicted beforehand.

Certain places have pricing strategies that are not tied to the local cost of living.

When it comes to safaris, some countries intentionally maintain high service levels and prices to appeal to wealthier customers, like Botswana.

Always keep this in mind.

Plan of Trip

You should try to align your travel aspirations with your actual capabilities by carefully assessing not just international travel but also domestic routes and any additional costs, especially if you are organizing the trip yourself.

If you find yourself confused by the math and your mind gets all jumbled up, you can rely on a travel agency for an all-inclusive deal with no unexpected twists.

If you're trying to save money, picking places with a low cost of living allows you to experience luxuries that might be out of reach elsewhere, making your trip even better.

From my own experience, I've discovered that a luxury hotel room in Bangkok costs the same as a modest hostel in Northern Europe! Just something to consider...

When selecting where to go and the kind of journey, our company plays a significant role.

If you prefer traveling alone to make new friends and have unexpected encounters along the way, the preferences of your travel buddies will play a significant role in deciding your destination. Finding a compromise will help ensure that everyone's needs are met.

If you're planning a romantic getaway as a couple, certain destinations are more fitting than others, like an atoll in Polynesia or a serene island in Greece, perfect for intimacy where you can celebrate your love dream.

But that doesn't mean a romantic destination can't also be great for a group holiday or a trip with friends.

I'll give you an example: I was in the Maldives with a group I had just met at the airport, and I can guarantee that everyone felt comfortable!

In popular party spots like Ibiza, Mykonos, or Dubai, organized groups or friends are the most common. However, I must say that during our fantastic vacation in vibrant Kos, my friend and I were already in bed by 10 pm!

If you're traveling with kids or individuals who are less flexible or have health issues, it's a good idea to steer clear of locations with subpar hygiene, non-potable tap water, limited healthcare, or extensive and prolonged travel.

6 - Be inspired...

Now that you have a better understanding, check out specialized magazines, browse travel websites and blogs, but most importantly, take a look at the world map and let yourself get inspired...

At this moment, whether alone or with others, follow your inspiration and select the perfect time, assess your options, and get ready to gather unforgettable moments of joy.
